Week beginning 10/3/25
Cogden have been delving into the fascinating world of plants. Building on their previous knowledge from Year 2, where they learnt about the basic parts of plants and their functions, students have expanded their understanding by identifying and describing the functions of different plant parts, including roots, stems, leaves, and flowers. They explored how roots absorb water and nutrients, stems support the plant and transport essential materials, leaves are the site of photosynthesis, and flowers play a crucial role in reproduction.
In addition to their scientific studies, pupils have developed their explanatory writing skills in English, focusing on using conjunctions and complex sentences to describe plant functions. Through hands-on experiments, they investigated the conditions necessary for plant growth and observed how plants adapt to different environments. The unit also covered the process of photosynthesis and the life cycle of plants, providing a comprehensive understanding of plant biology.
