Seatown have been learning about what causes floods through mapwork, the effect of flooding on residents in Allerford in Somerset and the different types of flood defence that can be put in place (hard and soft engineering). As we worked through the unit, we explored how to write formally and persuasively using a variety of techniques. The writing culminated in a letter from the council to residents of the village.Â
What do you think? Are they persuasive enough?
-
We learnt about river features...
-
...and created our own complete with labels from objects around the classroom.
-
We practised persuasive skills in a poster first.
-
Then we progressed to short paragraphs
-
Finally, we wrote a full letter using paragraphs and persuasive skills such as...
-
....rhetorical questions, strong fronted adverbials....
-
....imperative verbs at the beginning of sentences....
-
....and the rule of 3.
-
Wow! What a lot of work!
