Seatown have been creating monoprints in art this week. We explored mark making using different media before exploring 4 different ways of creating prints. The first was by placing paper onto an ink bed.
This was followed by taking ‘ghost prints’ (another print from the same ink and comparing the prints. They are called monoprints because the process will create a unique one off print each time.
We then noticed that our ink beds left a trace of our work, so we peeled off the paper and took some more prints from this.
The second printing process required indentations to be created into a soft plate (polystyrene board)/ The ink does not fall into these ‘gaps’. Here are some of the work from this process.
We then tried a 3rd process whereby we inked up a plate and then drew directly into the ink.
Here are some of the pieces we added to our board which includes ‘zines’ – homemade ‘one-off’ books that explore cutting with scissors (in the style of Matisse) and placing this artwork on top of hand painted papers that created collage effects. We learnt to colour mix using the 3 primary colours. The print effects were created using carbon copy paper.
