This past fortnight, Seatown Class explored why Britain once ruled the largest empire in history. Pupils learned about the expansion of the empire, reasons behind colonisation (such as trade, power and religion), and the process of independence that followed. They examined evidence from across the world, including speeches, maps, and photographs, and discussed the Falklands War and the modern Commonwealth.
Using these insights, the children wrote their own historical narratives set during key moments of the empire, demonstrating empathy, historical accuracy and excellent descriptive writing.

Below are some examples of our work – some are final versions, others show work being edited.
