Platinum Jubilee Tea Party May 26th 2022

This year marks a ‘once in a lifetime’ anniversary – the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. She has sat on the throne for 70 years and dedicated her whole life to serving our country.

To celebrate such a magnificent milestone, we decided to do a little something for our Powerstock community and host a tea party.

We made cakes and decorations and served teas and refreshments to our guests

As a school, we had been learning about many aspects of the Queen and some of the traditions associated with the Royal Family.

Excitement built as Burton Class got ready to parade with their crowns and flags.

Cogden Class talked about the Queen’s Green Canopy Project which promotes growing green things to help protect our planet and encourage young and old to value nature.

At Powerstock, we spend a lot of time thinking about how we can support our planet and how important it is to grow things. We learn about plants in our science curriculum and on our special Easter Journey Day, we sowed the seeds of God’s love in our school. We planted seeds to show this in action. These seeds have now grown into lovely plants. We created labels for each plant with our school values and gave them as gifts to all our guests.

Seatown Class then shared some interesting facts about the Queen. Here are some of them:

On 8 May 1945, Victory in Europe Day, the Queen (then Princess Elizabeth) and her sister Princess Margaret joined the crowds in London in disguise. Princess Elizabeth with had her ATS uniform cap pulled down over her face.

She later said of the day, “I remember lines of unknown people linking arms and walking down Whitehall, all of us just swept along on a tide of happiness and relief.”

The Queen speaks fluent French and has often used the language during audiences and State Visits.

The Queen owns all the swans in the country as well as all the whales and dolphins in the waters around the United Kingdom.

The Queen has no official ID she has no driving licence or passport and at 96 years old, Queen Elizabeth still drives her own car.

The Queen must have a lot of patience as she has sat for over 200 official portraits, with the first being in 1933 when she was just seven years old.

She owns an elephant, two giant turtles, a jaguar and a pair of sloths They are presents from other countries and they all live in London Zoo.

We sang a couple of songs before ending with the National Anthem that school and guests sang together, waving flags and showing our appreciation for our long reigning monarch.

A lovely way to end our half term and begin the country’s Jubilee celebrations.
